Science Policy in the Bush Administration
(13 April 2004)
You are invited to a discussion with Kurt Gottfried, chairman of the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and Cornell professor emeritus of physics. Professor Gottfried co-authored a recent UCS report on the misuse of science by the Bush administration (visit www.ucsusa.org). The report details the administration’s habits of “censoring and suppressing reports by its own scientists, stacking advisory committees with unqualified political appointees, disbanding government panels that provide unwanted advice and refusing to seek any independent scientific expertise in some cases” (NYTimes, Feb. 19). Professor Gottfried will speak on Tuesday, April 13 in the Founders Room of Annabel Taylor Hall at 6:30pm. Please join us for this information and discussion session. Call to Mobilize (17 Feb 2004)
Cornell for Peace and Justice invites you to join the first Cornell/ Ithaca coalition meeting to Stop Bush in 2004.
The effort to defeat Bush in 2004 has begun! Across campus, Ithaca, and the country people are working together to make sure that Bush will not get a second term in office. Across the Cornell campus, this is reflected in the energy of so many different campus groups, each working on their own Stop Bush campaign.
Cornell for Peace and Justice, along with the Bush Must Go! campaign, based in downtown Ithaca, are calling a meeting to build a coalition across Cornell and Ithaca. Many groups want to see Bush kicked out of the White House in 2004; our goal is to unite this energy into a cohesive campaign. This is not meant to be a project of Peace and Justice, or of any particular group, but a completely new organization and coalition.
